As for your DVD question, a lot of DVD players, especially the cheaper brands, are multiregion, but unless it's manufactured in Britain you'll have to unlock it yourself. There are plenty of online forums where you can find out how to do it. A Google search on your brand and make will probably do the trick. Or you can add "region free" to the search.
Or, if you have a DVD drive on your computer you can usually change regions five times before it locks the region, and if that's changed in the past few years since I bought my last computer there's always DVD Region Free. The Lite version only costs 25 US dollars.
